Branding, label design + website design

Evolving the brand to fit with innovative and super premium values

Having worked with Trevethan Distillery on their labels and general design work for 4 years, Trevethan asked me to assist them with a design overhaul to better align their visual identity with the innovative and premium distillers they had evolved into since they breathed new life into original 1920’s recipe.

Moving away from their Cornish craft distillery origins, the new design needed to reflect the premium and luxury values of the brand, whilst keeping strong visual references to their 1920’s routes.

Starting with the labels, I designed a masterfully simple and luxury feeling label, which invoked both a strong sense of the 1920’s art deco movement, whilst referencing complimentary art and design movements from the same era. The colour palette used kept the core Trevethan blue but then expanded to include several rich, contrasting colours inspired by the Wild Beasts movement.

The labels were then printed on slightly textured, thick paper-stock, with gold foil and embossing used to add a super premium feel and enhance detail.

The individual bottles were then photographed professionally, and I superimposed the new labels onto previous lifestyle imagery to create an image suite. I then produced a new Squarespace website using the name branding, including a interactive timeline.

Branding + label design

Trevethan Distillery are a Cornish Craft Distillery mainly focusing on gin production. Trevethan have two core ranges of gins, as well as recently branching out into rum and aperitif.

John, the Head Distiller, approached me to initially create the branding and label design for their new Lost Garden Rum, a collaboration with the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Using honey and pineapples from the Lost Garden of Heligan, the new rum branding needed to reflect the rich history of the Gardens, whilst retaining the 1920’s vibe of Trevethan Distillery.

The end result is a captivating design using 1920’s inspired typography, paired with flowers and bees to reflect the Gardens. The hexagon pattern embodies the honey aspect of the recipe, whilst the central swirl represents the roses of the Gardens. Printed in black, white and gold foil, it’s has a distinctly luxury feel.

Trevethan are constantly expanding and evolving their product offering, for which I create the new labels. Sometimes this entails modifying existing labels, other times it requires me to create a new cutter guide and design.

Graphic design + social media post design

Trevethan Distillery also offer distillery tours as special events. This requires an array of materials to be designed, such as, email newsletters, social media graphics and tickets.

They also regularly advertise in publications, both online and printed, which I also design for them on an ongoing basis.
